Skin (2008, Movie)

Based on a true story the heart and soul of this film makes the movie a success. This film explores the incredibly complex role race and white privilege play in all of our consciences and hearts in the most extreme setting. The New South Africa came too late for her but I hope that movies like this which explore the wrenching truth and sorrow of those times ultimately help lead to greater healing and humanity in the world.

Salt (2010, Movie)

The actions scenes are very creative and suspenseful. The film is about a CIA operative. When fingered as a Russian spy she goes on the run with the intent to clear her name and protect her husband. The movie pretends to "keep you guessing" as to whether she is a spy/double agent, but by the end you probably won't care.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011, Movie)

This is a prequel to the 1968 Charlton Heston original. The tagline for the movie is "Evolution becomes revolution"; but the source for the intelligence of the apes in this film is not natural evolution, but genetic engineering intended to create a cure for Alzheimer's. Yes, the film does provide a reasonable explanation as to how apes could inherit the Earth, but overall the story focuses less on science and more on relationships, primary those between Franco and his ailing father (played fondly by Lithgow) and Franco and his pet/friend/research chimp Caesar.
