Moneyball (2011, Movie)

This movie was tailor-made for Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt does not miss a beat with his portrayal of Billy Beane, the GM of the Oakland A's. Beane comes off as a man who did what it took to save his team from being a feeding team for the rich New York Yankees. When you have little cash to pay your players you must come up with a creative solution to keep your head above water. Beane's creative solution was recruiting a Yale economist who was great with stats on every player. The two of them embark on a path that is like swimming upstream.

Happy Fourth of July

Today is the 240th anniversary of the United States of America declaring independence from Great Britain.  After several years of a strained relationship, we seem to get along pretty well now.  I'd like to offer the opening of the Declaration:
IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.
The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,
"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--"

Jurassic World (2015, Movie)

While much of "Jurassic World" is derivative, there is enough original material to make this fourth "Jurassic Park" sci/fi actioner a worthy successor to the original trilogy. The story takes place 22 years after the original Jurassic Park disaster; and its successor, Jurassic World, is already a popular tourist attraction. But a new element has been added to the mix of dinosaurs...a genetically re-engineered species, larger than T-Rex, called Indominus Rex. 

It was way more action packed than any other one of the Jurrasic Parks.

Chef (2014, Movie)

This is about the head chef of a restaurant (Jon Favreau), figuring out what his creative values are as a culinary artist, and also figuring out what direction to take his career. This movie was Favreau's baby.

Though the beginning is a little slow going and doesn't have as much flavor as the rest of the film, it makes up for it with great comedy, feel-good family ties, and great cuisine throughout the movie.  This movie also touched on how our culture has become so obsessed with social networking and other fast-paced networking outlets. 

It is a feel-good movie!
