Illuminating the Heart of Mind Training

Teachings with Lama Jampa Thaye April 18 - 19

The 5th Shamarpa, Könchok Yenlak’s “Seven points of Mind Training”
Teachings with Ven. Lama Jampa Thaye

“Train impartially in every instance. Once deep and inclusive training has taken place, love everyone.”

Written by the 5th Shamar Rinpoché, Könchok Yenlak (1526–83), this condensed presentation of the lojong (“mind training”) maxims and explanations is a practical companion book for more extensive commentaries. Lama Jampa Thaye gave an extensive explanation of the text and the meditation practices set out therein, illuminating the heart of the lojong (mind training) practice.

Lama Jampa Thaye is one of the leading Buddhist teachers in the West and has been a student of HH Sakya Trizin and Karma Thinley Rinpoche since 1973. He has Centers in Britain, Europe and the American continent and has authored books translated into numerous languages. As an accomplished practitioner with a Doctorate from the University of Manchester he is uniquely qualified to bring the teachings of the Buddha to a modern audience.

With his scholarly, comprehensive and above all crystal clear teaching, I realized the significance of the teacher in Tibetan Buddhism and the importance of receiving the teachings from an authentic lineage and a highly qualified Lama

The Imitation Game (2014, Movie)

This movie turns out but the movie keeps you completely captivated. The movie gets the point across that cracking the enigma code cut 2 years off the war.  I will forever want to know what Turing wrote in his letter to Churchill.

Iron Man 3 (2013, Movie)

The special effects are good but the plot is dumb. There are scenes that are just nonsense, the entire Mandarin timeline goes nowhere and what Extremis actually does to its host is never really thoroughly explained. Objectively it was a fun popcorn movie and nothing more, but as a part of the whole that is the increasingly extensive Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is far from among the best the series has to offer.

The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014, Movie)

The Hundred Foot Journey is a mostly upbeat and positive tale of a large family of modest means with a restaurant in their native Mumbai. Helen Mirren never disappoints but the two young actors that I didn't recognize were excellent as well. Produced by S. Spielberg & O. Winfrey.

Descanso Garden visit

I was lead here by my neighbor Sue for the Cherry Blossom. The Japanese Garden with sakura (cherry blossom) is where the Cherry Blossom Festival was held at. Unfortunately, we missed the true Festival last month. There is a variety of flowers and plants within the gardens. And we did enjoy the beauty of nature!!

Last time we were here was attending Lynn and David's wedding a few years ago. The gardens are so large and we only picked a few spots to sample. Today, the lilacs and rose garden were  in bloom and beautiful! We visited the gift shop at length and it is great and varied. There is something for everyone; a seasonal section, e.g., Easter's hand decorated real eggs!

Hubby loves its serenity and red wood forest. There is definitely more for us to see on the next visit.
